On May 17, 2025, NYU Alumni Relations hosted an alumni gathering during the Cannes Film Festival, welcoming 76 alumni from 10 NYU schools and 10 countries, two professors, and an alumnus whose film was featured during the festival.
Three incredible alumni volunteers championed this effort, joining calls and organizing site visits as a mini-council for the reception. Nice-based Leila Meresman (STERN ’84), Paris and Hong Kong-based Ariane Lemée (TSOA ’01) and Los Angeles-based Beryl Liu (GAL ’21) expertly managed an audience of locals, expats, and visiting alumni. Their combined abilities to communicate across multiple languages and cultures was essential in the success of this initiative.
Held in partnership with Tisch Alumni Relations, Advancement Programs, and Volunteer Engagement, this model of hosting alumni gatherings at renowned festivals has since been replicated and will continue into 2026 to accompany Berlinale Film Festival (February), SXSW (March), Cannes Film Festival (May), SXSW London (June), Toronto Film Festival (September), and Art Basel in Miami (December).
