STEINHARDT ’96
NYU Alumni Club in South Florida
Rebecca Alva [she/her] is a dedicated pillar of the NYU Alumni community in South Florida. Recently celebrating a major milestone: Rebecca surpassed ten years of service to the NYU Alumni Association through the NYU Alumni Club in South Florida. During that time, she has organized, hosted, and promoted more than 50 NYU events. Her contributions are defined by a clear intention to strengthen alumni connections, expand opportunities, and celebrate the shared "Violet identity."
From heritage-themed happy hours to exclusive behind the scenes tours of preeminent performance cultural spaces in Miami, Rebecca excels in creating engaging and meaningful programming for the 17,000 NYU alumni living in South Florida. Some of her more memorable programming includes: performances by the New World Symphony, backstage meet and greet with John Leguizamo, and a meet & greet with Barry Bostwick (TSOA ’68) in connection with his performance recognizing the 50th Anniversary of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Rebecca has consistently shown creativity and enthusiasm to provide a range of entertaining experiences to alumni and their guests.
Throughout her presidency, Rebecca has been instrumental in ensuring the longevity of the alumni network. Using every alumni program as an opportunity to learn and listen to alumni in the South Florida region, Rebecca has recruited dozens of committee members to expand the region's leadership capacity. From 2022-2025, Rebecca personally recruited seven (7) volunteers to the club’s committee, resulting in an additional 20 programs during that period. Most recently, she has fortified a co-presidency-by-county leadership model to create a more representative programming in the South Florida community.
